The new CFMEU Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) poses significant challenges for builders and subcontractors.
What might work for one business doesn’t necessarily work for everyone so
it’s important to know what you’re signing.
It will place you under increased union control, limiting your autonomy and
decision-making power on projects including who can and can’t be engaged as
a subcontractor.
We all want to keep workers safe on site but this EBA is a trojan horse for
increased union control.
In a cost of living crisis, can Australians really afford an increase of at least 20
per cent to construction costs?
Ultimately, this Agreement makes the union your new business partner and
terminating it will be extremely difficult.
Even after the nominal expiry in 2027, the Agreement can continue to apply,
binding you for many years to come despite potential changes in
government and laws.
Before making any decisions, ensure you fully understand the implications of
the new CFMEU EBA to your business and the businesses you engage.
